If you know me at all, you know that I’m a firm believer that life is too short for ordinary anything–but especially ordinary design. And this winter if you’re looking to revamp your fireplace, or create one from nothing, this is the one of the easiest places to add something extraordinary to your home.Ā  There are so many stunningly unique ways of adding a little fire to your life ā€“ donā€™t get stuck in the rut of having your fireplace look just like everyone else’s.

Try metal instead of stone.Ā  Try a slab of stone instead of tiles.Ā  Create something that soars to the heavens.Ā  Donā€™t make it symmetrical.Ā  Lose the mantel for a sleek, no fuss look.Ā  Today, I’d like to share with you a few of the fireplaces we’ve redone or created from scratch for our clients. Which one lights your fire?

CONTEMPORARY

Mantels are not a necessity, especially with a contemporary style fireplace. In our client’s hearth room we transformed a plain Jane fireplace into a dynamic focal point with a huge, gorgeous slab of granite in shades of black, brown and gold. Can you even believe the Before? What a change! See our featured photo above for a full view.

BEFORE

Some of the latest fireplace designs use multi-dimensional tile, which adds lots of interest. For our client’s condo remodel, we took a typical fireplace and gave it a glamorous makeover with wavy, glossy white tile.

For this custom home, we designed a geometric fireplace surround that mimics the bookshelves surrounding it. We won an award for this one, too šŸ™‚

TRADITIONALĀ

To soften the edges of the classic fireplace in our client’s brand new hearth room addition, we used a palette of neutral colors and added lots of cozy furnishings.

On the other side of the hearth room above is a brand new sunroom, with an equally beautiful but totally different stone fireplace.

When the budget doesn’t allow for a complete fireplace makeover, you make sure everything used with and around the fireplace is a standout. So, we painted the niches on either side of the fireplace gold and added fun statues and colorful accessories to give the room personality.

This older home was brimming with traditional style, which included a gorgeous, classic fireplace design. Contemporary furnishings made the space more “today” and let that timeless fireplace design shine.

STONE

Stone is a classic choice for a fireplace. In this hearth room, we designed a new fireplace surround of textured ledge stone, creating a dramatic focal point.

The fireplace in this midcentury modern home was already awesome.Ā  All we had to do was replace the glass front to make it perfect.

In the above home’s dining room, we completely revamped the fireplace since the original design didn’t feel right in a midcentury home.Ā  A fireplace in the dining room is such a luxury!

SKY HIGH FIREPLACES

A sky high stone fireplace helps this custom home’s hearth room soar to new design heights. The three colors in the fireplace’s stone were the basis for this room’s color scheme.
