Traditional Meets Modern
Designed by: Kathleen Matthews
This couple came together to form a new household in a beautiful older home boasting fabulous arched doorways and leaded windows, but a smaller footprint with tighter spaces. We wanted to create a cohesive, roomy-feeling space that could meet their entertaining needs. We zoned the main living room into a foyer area near the entry, a seating area near the fireplace, and a cozy multi-purpose sitting area at the far end. Molding added architectural interest, and the soothing blue and gray color palette is the perfect foil for the explosion of paprika color through the arched doors. The sunroom was woken wide up with a top-to bottom blaze of color, and valances hide the shades with a touch of personality. The black-tie ready dining room was designed to complement the existing chandelier, and we chose to embrace the geometric forms and rich dark colors.
