As we wind down December, I wanted to share one last color that was crowned Color of the Year in 2019. Paint manufacturer PPG deemed nature-inspired Night Watch, an almost jade-like, luxurious deep green with a hint of black, its top choice.
“Night Watch is about bringing the healing power from the outdoors into your home through color,” explains Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “The dark green hue pulls our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature.”
Here’s how to make this restorative hue part of your home.
On the Wall
For a stunning style statement, wrap an entire room in this gorgeous green or simply dress an accent wall and create a beautiful focal point. Night Watch is a great alternative to black or navy and gives any room a shot of elegance.
DESIGN TIP: Night Watch pairs well with silver, gold and brass metallic finishes and light or dark woods.
DESIGN TIP: Go all in with Night Watch on upholstery and walls, or pair black walls with dark green furniture to create a dramatic, moody atmosphere.
Night Watch is a beautiful addition to a variety of wallpaper and mural patterns, especially when mixed with blues and botanical prints.
Design Tip: Night Watch plays nicely with other more vivid greens, as well as purple, turquoise and yellow. It also looks great with earthy tones, such as camel. And orange is a nice pop with Night Watch.
Fresher and more contemporary than its hunter green cousin, the deep dark green shade is sumptuous on tile, either on the wall or on the floor.
On Furniture or Underfoot
Like Night Watch but afraid to paint or paper your walls? A sofa, chair or rug in this striking deep green might be all you need.
Really just want to dip your toe into the green? Accessories, such as bedding, pillows, botanical prints and coasters are an easy way to embrace this elegant shade.
DESIGN TIP: Night Watch is an unexpected and stunning choice for interior, as well as front doors and gives your home a stately appearance.
As we prepare to say farewell to fall and welcome another winter, embracing deep, rich organic greens seems pretty natural to me. What about you? I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for using this sumptuous shade in your home. And remember, color is one of our specialties at Marcia Moore Design.
