Soft, buttery yellows that are almost white but not quite. Creamy, delicious hues that seem to melt off the walls. Sumptuous “almost” neutrals that are anything but boring. Sophisticated, yet ethereal. Mood-boosting, yet relaxed. Impressive, yet serene. Mellow yellows are warming up interior spaces this year. A lighter, more layered neutral than gray and a richer, less harsh alternative to white, creamy shades pair beautifully with fall and winter’s rich jewel tones.
Pineapple Cream Granita
In January, Ace Hardware’s Clark + Kensington named Pineapple Cream Granita, its 2019 Color of the Year. For the first time ever in its history, Ace invited people nationwide to mix their very own paint color and enter for a chance for it to be named the Ace Hardware 2019 Color of the Year.
Submissions were judged by a panel of Ace color experts who selected 25 finalists, with consumers leading the ultimate decision process as over 35,000 fans voted for their favorite color on Ace’s social media channels.
The winning Clark + Kensington color, Pineapple Cream Granita, a light and airy creamy yellow, was created by Francine C., of New Jersey.
When she came up with the winning name, Francine said she was daydreaming about enjoying a delicious dessert while on a relaxing vacation in Sicily with her daughter. I agree it’s a delicious color, although I’d prefer to be daydreaming about a pina colada.
If you’re looking for a tasteful hue that speaks volumes but in a hushed voice, a palette of pale creamy yellows is a lovely way to go. Here are some tasteful ideas to whet your appetite. Some of the shades are a bit brighter, some warmer, some more neutral, but all perfectly pretty.
Creamy tones wrap a bedroom or nursery in soft elegance or cottagy charm.
Blue is a natural complement for creamy tones.
And cream with berry red is one of my favorite color combos, especially in the fall and winter.
Cream is a sweetly nostalgic backdrop for a room that rocks a vintage or romantic vibe.
It’s also lovely in a formal setting and really makes architecture pop.
Sometimes, though, a dollop of cream is all you need.

Really love cream? Why not wrap your whole house in it?
And finally, if you were wondering what the heck granita was (as in Pineapple Cream Granita), here’s a recipe I found that looks pretty tasty. Enjoy!
Delectable and delicious, creamy hues are such an inviting alternative to white. They cast a beautiful soft glow on a room, kind of like a warm hug.
